La Rosiere - eat, drink, party

Mountain restaurants

In the La Rosière sector
A deservedly popular spot is La Traversette (0033 6 11 70 51 07), a self-service restaurant with a real-world menu and a large sun-deck. We particularly enjoyed the sensational views from the great location, near the base of the Fort chair-lift and the Boardercross du Fort.

In the Italian sector
For a great lunch in a genuinely away-from-it-all location, we reckon you’ll struggle to beat the welcoming Lo Riondo Refugio (0039 165 88 40 06). Located right beside Piste no.7 San Bernardo (which in other seasons is the road descending from the Col du Petit Saint Bernard to La Thuile). This welcoming mountain refuge serves up reviving, pasta- and polenta-based meals from around €10. This being Italy, vegetarians are also catered for, and there’s a tempting choice of cakes. On a chill day try to get a table inside to enjoy a warm log fire and the authentic chalet interior, otherwise head upstairs to a covered terrace made super-cosy with touches like fur blankets and cushions.

Restaurants in town

There’s something somewhere for most tastes and budgets, from fast-food/takeaway to gourmet dining. For the former try the creatively-named ‘Le Skifood’ (0033 4 79 23 18 41) in the Les Eucherts village or Eat Fusion (0033 4 79 40 17 95) in La Rosière 1850. mid-range/family options include La Grange (0033 4 79 23 18 38), in Les Eucherts, with a Savoyard/Italian menu and a warm ambiance (and friendly service) which impressed us during our visit.

And for the gourmet experience (plus fresh pastas to take away) Le Turia (0033 4 79 06 13 65) offers highly regarded dining in the authentic Savoyard setting of a former barn in La Rosière 1850.

Après-ski & nightlife

Our experience tells us that most visitors are not out to party until dawn here, but there is life in a couple of bars. Le Petit Danois ( 00 33 4 79 06 83 17) hosts live music and themed nights in the 1850 village centre. Les Eucherts, on the other hand, offers the Moobar Nightclub, with a disco vibe concealed within a chalet-style exterior. For après-ski drinks in a popular, upbeat setting we found the Arpin Bar ( 00 33 954 23 24 85) fitted the bill, although the free wi-fi tended to stifle conversation while attention shifted to the profusion of iPad screens.
