Pre-booked taxi

Taxi driver waiting at the end of the platform at Paris Nord

The easiest way to change stations in Paris is with a pre-booked taxi. Your driver will wait at the end of the platform holding a card with your name on it or at a pre-arranged meeting point outside the station.

The vehicles are spacious and can take skis and snowboards at no extra cost. If your train is delayed, the driver will wait for you. All drivers speak English.

The drive from Paris Nord to Paris Est takes around five minutes by taxi. You should allow a minimum of 40 minutes for your transfer just in case (and more if you want to stop for lunch).

For pre-booked services, we recommend City Airport Transfers (the name belies the fact that they also offer taxi transfers between Paris’s train stations). We have used them for many personal journeys, including the film below.

What's the pre-booked taxi service like?

We've made a one-minute film to show you exactly what Paris’s pre-booked taxi service is like—and had a lot of fun doing it!

The film shows the transfer from Paris Nord to Paris Gare de Lyon, which is a longer journey than from Paris Nord to Paris Est.

It’s certainly a good way to transfer for a family or a group of friends, making things very easy.

Exit Paris Nord onto the Boulevard de Denain, turn left onto the Boulevard de Magenta, then left again onto Rue du 8 Mai 1945.

While there's a shorter route you might find on Google Maps, it involves a steep flight of stairs, so avoid that. Ask any local to make sure you are headed the right way—everyone is helpful.

The Metro (not recommended for this transfer)

new exterior

The Metro journey between Paris Nord and Paris Est is only one stop.

From experience, we've found it isn't worth the bother; better to walk above ground because in the time taken to descend to the Metro, travel one stop and come back up, it's just as quick (and easier) to walk above ground.

Taking the Metro from Paris Nord to Paris Est is like taking the tube from Covent Garden to Leicester Square.
