Wengen - eat, drink, party

Village Restaurants
Wengen is the kind of resort where most guests eat in their hotels. The Chalet Hotel Bernerhof (00 41 33 855 27 21) specialises in raclette and fondue. The Hotel Berghaus (00 41 33 855 21 51) sets great store by its fish specialities, particularly from the Swiss Lakes. Away from the hotels, Sina's Place (00 41 33 855 31 72) is a pizzeria and steakhouse.
Mountain restaurants
Wengen and Grindelwald have almost 30 mountain restaurants between them, many of which can also be accessed by non-skiers using the train. At Kleine Scheidegg, The Restaurant Banhof (00 41 33 828 78 28) is the big one, right outside the station.
The Hotel Jungfrau (00 41 33 855 16 22) at Wengernalp has outstanding views and food. The Eigergletscher restaurant (00 41 33 828 78 88) at the point where the Jungfraubahn disappears into the mountainside, has wonderful close-up glacier views.
Mary's Café (00 41 33 855 25 75) at the bottom of the world-famous Lauberhorn race course is one of the best known mountain huts in Wengen, serving suppentopf (a hearty winter vegetable soup), beef and sausage, topped with cheese - typical mountain food.
Après-ski and nightlife
The Spycher Snow Bar at the Berggasthaus Männlichen has great views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau from its sundeck. The Lauberhorn Startbar at the beginning of the downhill-course is another lively spot when the lifts are closing. In the resort village, The Hotel Brunner has an outdoor snowbar and the Figeller Snowbar in the middle of the nursery slopes offers splendid views from deck chairs. Later, people move on to the Tanne Bar or Sina's Pub. Dancing Hasenstall in the basement of the Hotel Silberhorn and the Blue Monkey nightclub in the basement of the cinema are also popular.
