Mountain restaurants

There are dozens of restaurants dotted around the Milky Way, though for some reason many are not marked on the piste map. Many serve wonderful Italian food.

One of our favourites is Rocce Nere (00 39 012 285 81 56) in Sauze d’Oulx, great after a morning skiing in the powder in the trees. Alternatively, try the Raggio di Sole (00 39 012 276 982) at Anfiteatro.

Restaurants in town

This is Piedmont, the home of some of the best Italian cooking, so you will not be disappointed. Pan Beni (00 39 012 274 00 11) is top of our list if you are after high quality dining, while La Taverna (00 39 012 274 00 11) is a rustic cantina serving simple mountain food. La Tuccia (00 39 012 274 00 11) is

the largest restaurant and offers a classic Italian menu. In the main village petty much all the restaurants are worth a visit. There are 22 in all. You will not go hungry here!

Après-ski

If you are after wild après ski then look elsewhere. Pragelato is quiet, but that is not to say it is dead. Straight after skiing the bars are busy but people here tend to sip their drinks rather than gulp them. Chatting quietly and people watching is as much part of the après ski as drinking – this is Italy after all.

Sometimes the après ski involves something other than drinking and dancing. The Olympic ski jump, near the centre of town, has some night-time competitions during the winter months and a floodlit sporting extravaganza such as this is not to be missed.
