Village restaurants
Aussois' restaurants and bars are unpretentious, reliable and, as you’d expect, largely very family friendly. Expect to find plenty of Savoyard staples, especially at Restaurant Le Barillon, Restaurant L’Etagne and Restaurant Le Fort Marie-Christine, in a really special location inside one the Esseillon forts.
L'Avalanche is a bar, crêperie and traditional menu under one roof, while for something quicker, La Cabane à Fortich at the foot of the slopes and La P'tite Bouffe both serve delicious pizza. Le Mag d'Oé is a snack-bar option next to the Ô’Soi swimming pool, and La Terrasse, at the bottom of the Grand Jeu chairlift, serves crêpes and fast food to eat in or takeaway.
Mountain restaurants
You’re never far from a mountain restaurant on the slopes of Aussois. At the top of the Grand Jeu is La Montana, with a lovely large terrace and a menu of Savoyarde specialities plus burgers, planchas and a decent kids’ menu.
Above it, on the Armoise blue run, is Peyra Levrousa. Run by Marie-Thé and Philippe, it has an open fire, a small terrace for warmer days, and farmyard animals for guests of all ages to coo over.
L'Alpage, reached via the Armoise chairlift or the Plan Sec drag lift on the Léon blue, pairs a full menu of tartiflette and steak-frites alongside a snack bar with sun loungers to soak up the view.
On the lower slopes, Le Refuge de l’Ortet is on the Toutoune blue. A traditional chalet run by Gérerd and Aurélie, don’t miss Gégé’s home-made French fries. Lastly, O Bon’ Heure is a food truck on Ortet, serving tasty kebabs, tacos, burgers and sandwiches to eat on its terrace or to takeaway.
Après-ski and nightlife
Aussois is never going to compete with the big names on nightlife, but nor does it need to. There isn’t a nightclub, or a strip of bars to bounce from one to another, and that’s ok.
Instead, in the centre of the village, there’s the Brasserie d’Oé, where three Aussois friends brew their own beer and serve it in a first floor terraced bar inside the Maison des Métiers d’Art, while La Cave du Père Fressard, with a south-facing terrace, has local beers from the Galibier brewery and a wine cellar plus sweet and savoury snacks.
Bar à Vin Le Fleuri Liège, close to the foot of the slopes, serves regional wines by the glass accompanied by plates of charcuterie and cheese, and L’Avalanche and Bar La Terrasse both double as low-key drinks spots alongside their food menus.
Aside from the bars and restaurants, the tourist office runs a full programme of events, including talks at the Musée l’Arche d’Oé, concerts in the church and screenings in the small cinema [Checking with Nadine].
